Last June 14, 2008 QED IT Solutions represented by its Technical Manager, John Eric Ferrer, attended the First Joomla! Day Philippines organized by the local Joomla! User Group at the University of the Philippines Diliman Campus. This activity is an historic event in the increasingly popular use of Open Source Programs in the Philippines.
Joomla! being one of the most succesful Open Source Program developed is a Content Management System (CMS) software used in the development of dynamic websites. Joomla! is being used to developed professionally design sites by a lot of professional designers and developers to build sites for small to medium businesses and institutions, manage online magazines and newspapers, school and church websites, personal or family homepage, non-profit and organizational websites, etc. The whole day event was divided into a morning session available to the general public and a an afternoon session which is further separated into two simultaneous sessions: (a) an introductory session for beginning Joomla! users and (b) another one for advance Joomla! developers. The event was even attended by Johan Janssens. Johan is the lead developer of the Joomla! project and a member of the Open Source Matters Board of Directors. At the developer's session, Johan delivered a short introductory lecture on Joomla's API layer wherein developers can customize Joomla even further by writing their own extensions and developing possible bridges to other web applications. ![]() The above photo shows QED Technical Manager, John Eric E.
